ejaJimenez de Arechaga was founded in 1942 by internationally renowned Professor Eduardo Jimenez de Arechaga.

He was successor to an exceptional progeny of three generations of distinguished jurists that occupied as of the beginning of XX Century, the Chair of Constitutional Law at the School of Law of the University of the Republic.  Professor Eduardo Jimenez de Arechaga specialized in International Law, and obtained, by merit, the Chair of the subject at the School of Law. He served as member to the UN International Law Committee (Geneva, 1961-1969), as member and as Chairman of the International Court of Justice (The Hague, 1970-1979), and as Chairman of the Administrative Tribunal of the World Bank (1981-1987).  He also acted as arbitrator in many relevant international cases.  The practice of Jimenez de Arechaga was mainly oriented at banking, financial and corporate matters, advising banks and companies, domestic and international.



havEstudio Hector A. Viana was founded in 1933 by Public Notary Hector A. Viana as a notary firm and dealt principally with Family Law issues.  With the incorporation of Hector A. Viana Martorell, it soon developed into litigation practice, attaining successful judicial decisions, which prompted the enactment of significant legal changes in the Uruguayan legislation.
