With the enactment of law 18,836, Uruguay joined the wide majority of countries that ratified the "Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents", signed on 1961 in The Hague. This convention eliminated the cumbersome legalization procedure done, until now, through the country's consulates around the world, and substituted it with a special stamp known as the "Hague Apostille".
